The Louis Calder Foundation

The Louis Calder Foundation has issued a RFP seeking background letters from charter and parochial schools, charter management organizations and community based organizations for initiatives to develop comprehensive content based core curriculum education programs.

The background letter should focus on the organizations’ efforts to improve academic content by providing a coherent, sequenced, content-based curriculum during the regular and extended school day hours as well as during the summer. The curriculum should address a wide range of classical liberal subjects including literature, history, ethics, mathematics and the sciences.

The Foundation is expanding its geographical boundaries to support organizations along the Northeast Corridor and as far west as the Mississippi River but will continue to support schools and organizations within its traditional funding area of the Greater New York Metropolitan Area. The Foundation is targeting schools and organizations from communities located east of the Mississippi River with populations no greater than 500,000.

The Trustees believe that supporting educational organizations that deliver content based core curricula, operating parallel to existing systems, will over time demonstrate the necessity, value and validation for such curricula.

Eligible organizations are invited to submit a brief letter of inquiry detailing their plans and efforts to develop or enhance a comprehensive, content-rich core curriculum in grades K-8. Please send inquiries via email. The email should include background information on your community, schools, current curriculum and project budget. Upon review, The Foundation will request a complete proposal for consideration, if necessary.

Please submit all letters to proposals@calderfdn.org
